For an acute attack, there is not better remedy than a fast. In the 10 day diet, the patient needs to spend the first 3 days doing a rigorous fasting.

One may choose to do a complete water fast or add juice or fruits to the diet. However, all other food needs to be avoided during this period.

Note that sometimes the condition may worsen in the early stages of fasting when uric acid, dissolved by juices is thrown into the bloodstream for elimination. This usually clears up if fasting is continued.

In severe cases, it is advisable to undertake a series of short fasts for one day rather than one long fast.

A warm water enema, may also be used daily during the period of fasting to cleanse the bowels.

After the acute symptoms of gout have subsided, for the remaining seven days the patient needs to embark upon the following diet.

For Breakfast, the patient should consume only Fruits, such as oranges, apples, figs, apricot, mangoes, accompanied with whole wheat bread, and milk, or butter milk.

For Lunch, the patient must consume large portions of steamed vegetables, such as lettuce, beats, celery, water-cress, turnips, squash, carrots, tomatoes, along with cabbage and potatoes, whole wheat bread, cheese or cottage cheese, and butter milk.

And during dinner, the patient should consume Sprouts, such as alfalfa or beans, a good-sized salad of raw vegetables, such as carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, whole wheat bread and butter.

Do this 10 day diet to relieve yourself from any symptoms or problems of gout, in a natural healthy manner.

Also note that during this treatment, the patient should refrain from all forms of purine and uric acid producing foods, such as all meats, eggs, and fish. Glandular meats like liver etc. are especially harmful.

The patient must also avoid liquor, tea, coffee, sugar, white flour and its products, and all canned and processed foods. Spices and salts should be used as little as possible.
